There are many political, social and economic issues in Australia that compromise our equality and basic human rights. Educational disadvantage, indigenous rights, climate change, environmental degradation, marriage equality, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, gender discrimination, treatment of refugees, domestic violence, racism, access to healthcare... the list goes on. There are few in this country who are not affected, or know someone affected, by one or more of these critical issues.
Equalitarianism, or egalitarianism, is the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities, regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, class, religion, disability or sexuality. This equality is central to achieving social justice where everyone has the right to lead fulfilling lives and realise their potential in the community.
Throughout history art has played a powerful role in engaging people in social and political issues and influencing change.
Equalitaria is an opportunity for you to participate in this discourse.
Utilising a two dimensional surface no larger than 40 cm x 40cm (framed or unframed), you are invited to respond to the principles of equalitarianism and social justice. Through your personal lens you will shine a light on an aspect of this theme; this could be a personal experience or an observation, one subject or several, abstract through to realist, in any medium.
This exhibition will be limited to 60 artists and 60 works, if you are interested please register your participation as soon as possible.
Please note this will be an acquisitive exhibition with all proceeds from the sales of artworks to go to the campaign of social justice champion and Greens candidate Alex Bhathal in her bid to win the Federal seat of Batman in the 2018/19 Federal election.
As a contributing artist you will be entitled to the following benefits:
- inclusion in exhibition promotions and catalogue
- complimentary ticket to the closing night/art auction event

- the opportunity to include your participation in Equalitaria on your CV
