2019 Heysen Sculpture Biennial exhibition Call Out

Artists are invited to respond to the Call to Artists for the 2019 HSB. This exhibition of contemporary sculptures is set in the beautiful grounds of The Cedars in the Adelaide Hills. The Cedars was the home and studio of famed Australian landscape artist Sir Hans Heysen.

The 2019 HSB runs from end of February to end of April 2019. Artists are invited to submit entries for the exhibition which is curated by Stephanie Radok.

The theme of the 2019 Heysen Sculpture Biennial is Dwelling.

The word ‘dwelling’ refers to a home, to living as well as to thinking. It emphasises staying still and taking time to reflect. Treading lightly, thinking green, working ecologically and engaging with a sense of place are all involved.

Artists are encouraged to visit the site if possible, to make new work, and to consider the theme.

The Heysen Sculpture Biennial takes place at the historic site of Hans Heysen’s home on the surrounding land that he actively conserved with its white gums and other trees.

The temporary trail of contemporary sculptures each provide a place to dwell on and upon our precious earth.

The HSB is open to all forms of sculpture and installation.

In 2019 for the first time since it started in 2000 the Heysen Sculpture Biennial (HSB) will have a curator. The inaugural curator Stephanie Radok is an artist, art critic, writer, editor and curator who has been involved in the Australian art world for over thirty years. Her experience of exhibitions, local, national and international will inform her curating of the HSB, a special exhibition in a special place.

New sponsors Northline Transport and Mount Barker Cranes are providing generous support for artists who require discounted transportation of larger/heavier work to and from the Cedars, and who would need free crane services for an installation and de-installation day.

Generous support by the Beerenberg Foundation has funded the appointment of Stephanie as our 2019 HSB Curator.
