The City of Canada Bay is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists for an artwork which will be applied onto a Table Tennis table in Cabarita Park adjacent to the Swimming Centre. The vision is for an innovative, vibrant and high quality artwork to be applied to a table tennis table being installed as a result of a successful trial in Cabarita Park. The project aims to achieve public art that resonates with visitors and residents and encourages connection between play, sport, and the social interactions undertaken in the park.
For many the beauty of the river is a primary connection to environment, an intervention of the natural world in an increasingly urbanised suburb. The foreshore is also a natural focus for walking, cycling, family outings and community events. The heritage of the river and the environment should inform the design of the work. The City of Canada Bay Public Art Plan recognises the importance of the 38 kilometres of Parramatta River foreshore. The River is the most evocative of themes. Its role in shaping the geographic landscape, its meaning and amenity to the first nation people, its use and misuse during the industrial period and finally its new role as a lifestyle and recreational focus for residents and visitors is a subject of great texture. The cultural exploration of the river through this artwork is therefore an important dimension of the work. The artwork can also reflect the vibrancy of children, young adults, families and multiculturalism found in this area.
The budget for this project is $3,500.
