About the Course
Dates: Saturday and Sunday 8 and 9 April 2017
We are pleased to welcome Sydney based tonalist painter Marie Mansfield for this special 2 day oil painting workshop for students with some prior oil painting experience. Gaining a solid understanding of tone is a vital ingredient to improving your painting. With a good understanding of tone you can bring atmosphere and mood into your paintings, whether it be still life, portraiture or landscape.
In this two day workshop discover how to give the illusion of reality to your paintings through observing tone. You will learn to observe tone through various exercises, be introduced to a method of mixing colours tonally and paint a still life study in oil.
Marie Mansfield has developed a strong reputation for her tonalist portrait, landscape and still life paintings. In 2016 she was a finalist in the Archibald Prize with her painting of fellow New Zealander Euan Macleod. She is a regular finalist in the Moran Prize, Portia Geach Memorial Award, Black Swan Portrait Prize and Mosman Art Prizes. Marie studied painting at the Julian Ashton Art School.
