Make the city your studio. Apply now for this new and exciting opportunity and create something that will be part of the landscape in an iconic Melbourne green space.
City of Melbourne seeks artists for a $350,000 commission to integrate public artwork in University Square, Carlton.
Permanent public art for this project could take a variety of forms and be from any creative practice area. We are particularly interested in hearing from artists who can incorporate interactive components, new technology and/or a connection to First Nations people.
Artists will need to provide a written response to the initial curatorial vision developed by Robert Owen in 2016.
Applications must include:
- Brief response to the curatorial brief, including a description of your proposed work’s concept and how it would be experienced
- Examples of relevant public artworks of a similar scale
- Short statement of your experience
The opportunity is open to artists across Australia, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are encouraged to apply.
The $350,000 commission must allow for materials, fabrication, lighting, installation, consultants (for example, a structural engineer), and artist fees.
