Australia loses a great arts patron

Philanthropist and former chairman of Australia’s media dynasty, Fairfax & Sons, James Fairfax leaves a great legacy for the arts.

The National Gallery of Australia has described James Fairfax as one of Australia’s greatest patrons of the arts and a collector and connoisseur of formidable skill and talent.

‘James was an exceptionally generous donor to many art museums, whose collections were enriched by his philanthropy and connoisseurship,’ said Gerard Vaughan, NGA Director.
