With a forecast of $10M in sales over 4 days, Sydney’s art fairs will be the biggest injection to the Australian art market this year

With four fairs staged across Sydney this weekend, the capacity of the sector to differentiate and of the collecting base to sustain the mushrooming is under the microscope.

Tim Etchells, Director of Art Fairs Australia said the Sydney boom comes in the context of  ‘something like 180 international art fairs’ including the Jakarta art fair last week, and a new Bund art fair in Shanghai, both of which impacted the drop in the number of Asian galleries heading down to Sydney this week.
