As galleries everywhere turn to the ANZAC centenary to revive a narrative of heroism and pride in the Australian spirit (among other topics), images of triumph within an Australia identity are explored through an entirely different angle in two exhibitions, one curated by former Director of the Art Gallery of NSW, Edmund Capon, and the other by the daughter of artist Carl Plate.
