Cairns Indigenous art meets Melbourne Fashion Festival

Indigenous art works from Far North Queensland meet fashion in the upcoming Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF) cultural showcase; â€‹part of the festival’s strongest Indigenous program in its 20 year history.

For the first time, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s (CIAF) fashion performance Birrimbi Dulgu Bajal (Rainforest and Sea Dreaming) will be toured in its entirety, presenting contemporary versions of cultural adornment alongside music and dance to push boundaries of fashion and arts.





The participating 11 artists and designers and 20 male and female models are from Far North Queensland, many leaving their home towns for the first time to present their unique designs to a wider audience.

Artists Teho Ropeyarn, Ailan Pasin and Nickeema Williams hail from participating arts centres Yarrabah Arts, Bana Yirriji Art, Erub Art Centre, Ylanji Arts Centre, MIAR, and beyond.
