People - A window to the soul

We are constantly surrounded by people - loved ones, acquaintances and strangers. We converse and interact, but how well do we really know that person? And conversely, what do they reveal to us?

It was film director, Jean-Luc Godard who said, “When you photograph a face, you photograph the soul behind it”.

This exhibition by CAE Short Course & Visual Arts tutors and students displays a fascinating mix of paintings, drawings, photographs, prints and sculptural 3D work inspired by people, either posed or captured by chance. The image may well be representational or abstract. It might flatter or highlight less than attractive features. It might be lavish in both technique and final image or conversely, simple and understated. Can you imagine what the artist is trying to reveal?

A Centre for Adult Education and City of Melbourne partnership project.
