About the film:
Thessaloniki, Greece, 1942. Estrea, a Jewish girl, and Giorgos, a Christian boy, fall in love against a background of German occupation. Their relationship is forbidden under the new laws put in place by the Nazis, forcing them to seek sanctuary at the historic Ouzeri Tsitsanis. The small tavern is presided over by Vasilis Tsitsanis, one of the greatest composers and singers of the 20th century, and his folk music provides some Jews relief from the unfolding chaos. Despite steadfast resistance, the hunt for Jews gradually spreads and suddenly simple choices become life changing decisions, with far more than simply love at stake.
Inspired by real events, and adapted from George Skarbadonis’s novel of the same name, Cloudy Sunday is the winner of multiple 2016 Hellenic Film Academy Awards.
Screening with introduction by Shira’s Journey’s Director Carol Gordon.
