PHANTASMAGORIA: site-responsive exhibition

PHANTASMAGORIA is a site responsive exhibition located at Bogong Village running each weekend until Sunday, April 30.

Curated by Madelynne Cornish and Philip Samartzis – PHANTASMAGORIA re-imagines and transforms Bogong Village into a world of shadows, murmurs and dreams. The exhibition features works that respond to the vanishing individuals and communities that have marked the alpine region.

Artworks comprising the exhibition are embedded throughout Bogong Village indicated by yellow markers. Works by Thai artist Charinthorn Rachurutchata, US artist Diego F Torres and Sharyn Brand use QR codes in their response to site. Stroll around Lake Guy and discover Electric Fairy Ground a three-part radio play/art work by German artist Gabi Schaffner. Ben Byrne's work The FLOOD is an after dark generative audiovisual installation that illuminates the shed opposite the Bogong Hydroelectric power station, underscored by pink noise reminiscent of that heard in the city, in wind and in the village’s waterways. Pause in the B–CSC immersive sound garden to listen to site responsive compositions by Christophe Charles Daniel Lercher, Philip, Samartzis, Michael Vorfeld. Meander up the Outdoor School Bogong's driveway and discover some of Kylie Elser's photographic installations consisting of small boxes containing photos of former residents as they are now but pictured in the landscape of their past. Visit the Outdoor School Rec Room and watch Matthew Berka's 'Distant Ways', a selection of found footage that replays scenes of Bogong’s recent but seemingly distant past. These are just a few of the artworks exhibited in Bogong Village each weekend until April 30.

A QR code reader, radio[app] and headphones are required to experience some of the artworks.

Featured artists include Atticus Bastow, Matthew Berka, Peter Blamey, Elise Bonato, Sharyn Brand, Katharina Brauer, Ben Byrne, Christophe Charles, Madelynne Cornish, Melissa Deerson, Lesley Duxbury, Sarah Edwards collaborating with Kim Lane and Mt Beauty Secondary College, Kylie Esler, Aidan Kelly, Daniel Lercher, Willy Merz, Harry Nankin, Overtone Ensemble, Charinthorn Rachurutchata, Geoff Robinson, Philip Samartzis, Gabi Schaffner, Jacqui Shelton, Utako Shindo, Erin K Taylor, Diego F Torres, Michael Vorfeld and Bryden Williams.
