Are you passionate about the arts? Do you teach in a creative area and want to understand the cultural industry in more depth? Are you curious to discover what goes on behind the scenes at well-known galleries and archives?
In July, La Trobe University is offering the public the opportunity to attend an immersive, five-day course in partnership with Bendigo Art Gallery. Exhibiting Culture: Inside Collections draws upon the University’s special anniversary exhibition, Revealing Identity: The Collections of La Trobe University, which is on show at Bendigo Art Gallery until September.
Delivered by La Trobe Art Institute (LAI), Exhibiting Culture delves into La Trobe University’s expansive and diverse collection of art and artefacts, from propaganda posters and ceramics, to 2D and 3D artworks. It addresses what compels individuals and institutions to collect, what we choose to keep, what our choices reveal about us, and how we reinterpret past collections in the context of the present.
Exhibiting Culture is delivered in Bendigo at LAI and Bendigo Art Gallery for four days, with one day spent in Melbourne at the NGV and National Sports Museum. The subject will feature a range of dynamic activities including seminars, guest lectures from art collectors and curators, exclusive access and networking opportunities.
This subject is suitable for students, teachers and any other members of the general public. Public participants may apply for a certificate of participation which can be used to demonstrate continuing professional development. Please note that La Trobe students will undertake the course as a subject with an assessment component.
Dates/Location: Monday 17 July – Friday 21 July 2017 (LAI, Bendigo Mon & Wed – Fri; Melbourne Tues)
Cost: The cost to attend the full program for the general public is $375.00 + GST.
Registration: Closes 10 July 2017
