The longest running Portrait Prize in South Australia. Prospect Gallery invites contemporary approaches to portraiture. We seek the artists’ unique interpretation of the subject.
The 10th Prospect Portrait Prize is a juried exhibition. Members of the Prospect Arts Action Network (PAAN) will assess and select the finalists for the exhibition which opens on the 5 December 2019. Finalists will be selected on the artistic merit of their work and conformation to conditions of entry. The selection panels decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The Prospect Portrait Prize is a non-acquisitive prize generously donated by Terry Howe Printing Services. Prizewinners will be chosen from those works selected for exhibition in the 10th Prospect Portrait Prize 2019.

- People’s Choice - $1000
- Payinthi Award - $ 500
Independent judge Russell Kelty, Assistant Curator of Asian Art at The Art Gallery of SA, has been invited to determine the entrant to be awarded the Prospect Portrait Prize.
City of Prospect Council staff and Elected Member votes will determine the recipient of the Payinthi Award.
Both the First Prize and the Payinthi Award will be announced at the opening of exhibition.
The People’s Choice Award, also generously donated by Terry Howe Printing Services, will be determined by public vote, and will be announced at the closing of the exhibition via social media.

Shortlisted artworks to arrive at Newmarch Gallery no later than Friday 29 November
Prospect Portrait Prize Exhibition Opening and Announcement of Prizewinners (except Peoples’ Choice Award) on Thursday 5 December
Official opening at 6pm on Thursday 5 December
Exhibition dates 5 December 2019 to 25 January 2020
Shortlisted artworks are to be collected from 27 to 31 January 2020
