The Choice Awards recognize outstanding photographers working in all processes and subject matter. Images can be singular or part of a series. The Awards are divided into three categories – Curator’s Choice, Director’s Choice, and Editor’s Choice.
Winners receive publication in Lenscratch, admission to Review Santa Fe portfolio reviews, and participation in a winner’s exhibition.
CURATOR: Makeda Best, Curator of Photography, Harvard Art Museum
Makeda Best is the Richard L. Menschel Curator of Photography at the Harvard Art Museums. Her forthcoming book on Civil War photography will be published in 2020 by the Pennsylvania State University Press. Her most recent exhibition was Time is Now: Photography and Social Change in James Baldwin’s America.
DIRECTOR: Monica Allende, Artistic Director, Getxophoto International Festival & Independent Curator
Monica Allende is an independent curator, consultant, strategist and educator. She is the Artistic Director of GetxoPhoto Photo Festival and Landskrona Foto Festival she has collaborated with WeTransfer as a Creative Producer and Consultant, she was the director of FORMAT17 International Photography Festival, she collaborated with Screen Projects and is producing and curating several multidisciplinary projects with artists and digital platforms worldwide.
EDITOR: MaryAnne Golon, Director of Photography, The Washington Post
MaryAnne Golon is director of photography at the Washington Post. She is a key member of the senior management team overseeing all aspects of photography across all platforms. She manages 17 staff photojournalists, 18 photography editors, and hires dozens of freelance photojournalists. Golon was previously Time magazine’s director of photography and co-managed the international newsmagazine’s photography department for more than 15 years. She was twice selected for American Photo magazine’s list of the 100 most important people in photography.
