The Helpmann Academy George Street Studios Residency offers two emerging South Australian artists with a 6-month studio residency at the George Street Studio, suitable for artists working across sculpture, furniture or mixed media.
Two eligible artists will be awarded a rent-free studio space, providing them the critical time, space, support and freedom to both create new work, and develop their career.
Situated within the creative and social city-fringe suburb of Thebarton, George Street Studio thrives on its dynamic, creative and progressive work environment. The strength of its members is their collective knowledge, experience, and facilities that can assist emerging artists to manifest their vision with access to specialised space, machinery and technical skills. Through long-term and sustainable practices, the studio members have an advanced understanding of technical process, materials and suppliers required to advance most artistic visions and projects.
There is a strong sense of camaraderie at the studios and a commitment to emerging artists. Resident artists are also able to access a network of suppliers and services.
Open to visual artists, up to five years following their final year of study from the Helpmann Academy’s partner institutions.
“The studio environment at George Street Studios is unlike any other studio I have come into contact with due to the sheer abundance of equipment they possess. Working in sculptural installation, being granted access to not only use but further develop my technical knowledge has awarded me the ability to create completely new work to a higher standard.”
Kate Bohunnis, George Street Studio Residency participant.
