Ethical and Sustainable Designers Lead FCAC Winter Workshop Program

Footscray Community Art Centre

About the Course

Footscray Community Arts Centre’s (FCAC) winter workshop program features some of Australia’s leading designers and makers of bespoke apparel and homewares. With a strong focus on ethical and sustainable practices, the series offer participants the opportunity to create in a relaxed, fun and interactive setting, and take home their own handmade designs.

Taught by high profile and emerging local artists, the upcoming winter workshop series includes popular one-off classes such as series Introduction to Machine Knitting, Pop Art Jewellery and Make Your Own Fabric Pot Plant Covers, as well as ongoing term classes such as Introduction to Ceramics.

Renowned Australian textile designer Lorena Gonzalez is running a three session workshop series: Introduction to Machine Knitting. Creative Director and Owner of her own luxury knitwear label Loré Loré, with shapes and colours inspired by her Chilean heritage, Lorena is teaching knitting enthusiasts of all levels how to create their own designer knitwear. The perfect workshop to have a yarn with friends. All materials supplied.

Lorena spent much of her childhood in Melbourne’s West attending ceramic workshops with her mother at FCAC. ‘Growing up, I was always surrounded by art,’ she says. ‘And the Footscray Community Arts Centre was always at the centre of that. I’m excited to return to run this workshop series and pass on the art of knitting.’

Emma Grace, jewellery maker and sustainability guru, is running two workshops this season: Pop Art Jewellery and Make Your Own Fabric Pot Plant Covers. Using everyday household items and recyclables, Emma is showing how to transform them into wearable, designer wares. All materials supplied.

Building on the success of her online Etsy shop erinswindow, ceramicist Erin Tsubono returns to facilitate Introduction to Ceramics. Using natural materials clay, fibre and paper, Erin is teaching participants how to create their own jewellery dish bowl, pinch pot and much more. Basic materials will be supplied.
