New initiative to get women to the top

A much needed national mentorship program has been launched to address the low number of women heading up Australian museums.

The arts sector is predominantly made up of women but most of the tops seats remain occupied by men.

ArtsHub’s previous analysis revealed a historical male preference in choosing the person up for role of director in national and state galleries and museums.

Lack of confidence and role models as well as the impact of motherhood are often touted as common stumbling blocks, but will soon be toppled over with the introduction of the inaugural Executive Mentoring Program.
