Making the National Gallery more accountable

After a year of battered public opinion over provenance issues, NGA Director Gerard Vaughan opens up on the new strategic plan, a new look, and a new approach to the sticky question of provenance.

Last week the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) announced its summer blockbuster would be an exhibition on the work of Tom Roberts, opening 6 December. The show will be timed with the unveiling of a major rehang at the NGA that positions the Australian Collections downstairs in the previously lofty spaces reserved for international, the showcase location encountered first when entering the gallery.
