Writing proposals for exhibitions is one of the most important parts of your art practice. Knowing how to sell yourself and tell others about your work can be tricky.

Before you sit down to write a proposal, think about how you would explain your exhibition idea to somebody not in Art World – like your mum. Jot down how you’d explain it to her, and keep that in mind while you go through the application process. This will keep you grounded in your ideas for the show and make sure you stay true to your original intent.
