QUICK NEWS BITES

Hobart’s DarkLab has submitted a development application this week for an $8.5 million artwork and accompanying locally-designed visitor’s centre as part of Project X in Tasmania’s Huon Valley.

The large-scale interactive art pavilion, titled Transformer (pictured top) is a permanent and site-specific commission by American artist Doug Aitken. The structure will have a reflective interior consisting of angles and facets, creating a never-ending kaleidoscope of light that interacts with the landscape.

The artwork is a federal and state government initiative funded as part of Project X, with the support of DarkLab Pty Ltd, owned by David Walsh.
