Global sculptor icon Barnett Newman comes to Canberra

American sculptor Barnett Newman to take top billing outside the National Gallery of Australia, thanks to a rare long-term loan.

In 1963, Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington (USA). That same year, American artist Barnett Newman conceived of the sculpture Broken Obelisk – equally an icon of a moment in art history.
