The short of the long is that the year was hardly a boom in the Australian auction market but it was one that consistently edged its way forward, growing confidence in the sector and rewarded new initiatives.

Art Sales Digest reported the total turnover for the year in the auction market was $109.25 million, which was 3.2 per cent or $3 million up on last year’s figures. They also pitted a drop in the average price of sold artworks from $9,268 to $8,890.
