Art Gallery of South Australia hung like a horse

Earlier this year, the Art Gallery of South Australia opened the doors to its newly structured Melrose Wing of European Art. There was chatter within the local community preceding the event about what the new gallery might look like, but it was nothing compared to the chatter that came after.

When the wing opened its doors in January, it was completely re-organised to present the varied collection thematically instead of chronologically. Nothing too appalling, right? But with the opening of those doors came the shock of the community, with some outraged and offended by what they saw. But what was it that caused this outrage?
