Mural or graffiti? Both have been part of the urban landscape for as long as cities have emerged, and yet there is still contention around what is considered art and what is usable public space.

In a joint project between the NSW Department of Justice and Sutherland Shire Council, with Hazelhurst Art Centre, 34 visual artists – including two Indigenous artists, an artist from Mexico, and local and interstate artists – will paint some 23 walls or 1,500 square metres as one of Sydney’s largest crime prevention programs to stop graffiti, tagging and vandalism.
