Abbotsford Convent

Addendum by Leisa Shelton

This September, the Abbotsford Convent’s 2019 artist-in-resident, Leisa Shelton, will launch a major new work, addendum; for which she will collate, publicly display and then burn her full performance archive of 30 years' continuous arts practice in Australia.

addendum; takes the artist’s body of practice as a device to consider, speak to and reflect on the cultural landscape of the arts in Australia through the bespoke lens of this one independent artist archive. It proposes a model for non-institutional, embodied archives by burning the full archive to create a memorial document of ash as representative of the embodied archive.

The project will host a series of public events and durational 'burnings' across 2019, toward a major exhibition in 2020 of Ephemeral Artist Archives, all in partnership with the Abbotsford Convent.

PROJECT LAUNCH: OPENING CELEBRATION

The full archive can be viewed on Friday 13 September at 6.30pm – a first addenda; by artist Leisa Shelton. An artist talk will be followed by drinks and conversation.
