Drawn from the private collections of Geoffrey Hassall OAM and Helene Teichmann, Looking Forward—Looking Back: Contemporary Works from the East Kimberley reflects on the legacy of Jirrawun Arts in the eastern Kimberley region of Western Australia.
This pioneering studio produced some of the country’s most recognisable artists including Goody Barrett, Paddy Bedford, Peggy Patrick, Rusty Peters, Rammey Ramsey, Phyllis Thomas and Freddie Timms. The major contemporary works featured in Looking Forward—Looking Back explore themes and concepts ranging from Gija Dreaming stories, to the Kimberley’s brutal colonial past. Portraits of the artists by photographer Peter Eve accompany the exhibition.
