The South African born artist who now lives between Hovea and Nedlands, has studied both visual arts, art therapy and worked in the mental health industry. Johnson attributes this time spent working with art therapy as having a large role in helping her understand her own arts practice. Playing with light and shadow, Johnson has worked with materials such as resin and Perspex to reflect the complexities of both living with, and caring for, someone with dementia. Using these transparent materials, Johnson builds multiple layers and view points into each artwork. Also drawn to recycled materials, Johnson often works with Aluminium, which whilst reflective, dulls with age.
