Parallelism– Convergence–Infiltration

Two artists come together to explore the parallel nature of their work, and the infiltration and collision of ideas and processes to create new works that combine their relatively disparate art practices (design, printmaking).

Two artists, one in design (Mark Aheimer), the other in printmaking (Catherine Rogers) create much of their work in parallel from the home they share.

Aheimer creates furniture from plywood. While appreciated for its utility, plywood is overlooked for its beauty.

Rogers creates two and three-dimensional linocut prints on Japanese paper.

While the artists provide input into each other’s practice, much of their work is made in isolation. Their practice, however, shares commonality in the use of layering, and the use of line and repetition that converge into detailed patterned works.

Parallelism-Convergence-Infiltration is a series of print and design works that explore the parallel nature of their work, and the infiltration and collision of ideas and processes to create new works that combine their relatively disparate art practices, that of printmaking and design.

The artists will combine traditional forms and processes and explore new ways of infiltrating each other’s work in response to their practice. From a design perspective, the challenge is to create a platform for a printed form, which may then be part of a decorative surface. From a printmaking perspective, there will be transference from traditional cutting or engraving to the use of modern computer controlled techniques to create an image on plywood as well as other substrates.
