Curator's Talk: Solid Light Josef Stanislaw Ostoja-Kotkowski

The exhibition Solid Light presents the radical work of Josef Stanislaw Ostoja-Kotkowski, who migrated from Poland in 1949 and became pivotal in the development of Australian optical and kinetic art. Pioneering the use of new media, he made innovations in computer and laser technology which he applied to visual art, music and theatre.

Continuing Ostoja-Kotkowski's experiments with new technology, Pia van Gelder's Psychic Synth II uses electroencephalograph headsets with video and sound synthesisers to translate participants' brain activity into colourful abstract projections and sounds.

Join us for an exhibition tour with Simon Lawrie, The Balnaves Curator of Australian Sculpture, to explore Ostoja-Kotkowski's migration experience, his radical use of technology, and the contemporary use of new media.
